The NHAO PET PANTRY:

  1. Provides free pet food when we have some in stock.

  2. You must live in Macon County.

  3. This food is for emergency situations.

  4. You must have a food plan for your animals that provides adequate food for all your pets all the time.

  5. NHAO cannot be part of that food plan.

  6. When your food plan is interrupted by an emergency, we can help you out.

  7. Text 217-413-8646 with your name, address, your pet's name, age, weight, and spay/neuter status. We need this information for each of your pets.

  8. Be aware that if your pet is not spayed/neutered, you will need to persue spay/neuter surgery for your pet to qualify for this program.

  9. APL in Springfield or the Decatur Humane Society can get you on a list for the surgery.

  10. We can help out with food ONE TIME while you get on the surgical schedule. Be aware that after that one time, you will not qualify for this program until  you pet is spayed/neutered. We will need proof of that surgery from your vet.

All the Pet Pantry food is donated to us from the community and we pass it along to hungry pets.

> This program is not designed to feed your pets for a prolonged period of time.

> Because the food is donated to us, we have no idea from one day to the next what type or brand of food we have to share.

> The food is repackaged into 1 gallon zip lock bags (approximately 3 to 4 lbs of food).
>The maximum amount of food you can get is 18 pounds no matter how many pets you have.
> If your feeding emergency is prolonged past a few months, you may need to consider whether you can afford to keep your pet. It is very important that pets have a reliable source of food, medical care, and shots to live their best lives.
